The Philippine Basketball Association is eyeing to start its 46th season this month and is just waiting for Inter-Agency Task Force’s approval, but All-Filipino Cup champion Barangay Ginebra might need more time to prepare for its title defense.
In a report from pba.ph, Ginebra floor general LA Tenorio admitted that the team is far from its best shape after taking a long break from basketball.
The Gin Kings have started going back to training for a month now, but for Tenorio, the team still has a long way to go, “A lot of work to do. Marami pa talaga.”
“No basketball for almost six months, medyo mahirap kunin ‘yun for almost a month (of training). So little by little, step by step, we’re getting there especially with our new guys and of course, Christian Standhardinger,” addressed Tenorio.
As a defending title-holder and knowing that other teams are keeping an eye on them, Ginebra needs to take it up a notch in practice to get to there best position.
“We know it’s gonna be really hard this coming conference kasi lahat ng teams nagpalakas talaga. And I think this is the hardest conference na lalaruin namin knowing na a lot of teams ang target kami, kasi kami ang defending champions,” the 2020 Philippine Cup Finals MVP added.
“So we really have to double time our work.”
