Alaska holds off NorthPort for crucial win
Alaska Aces foiled the NorthPort Batang Pier’s comeback attempt for a 106-99 win in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Picking up back-to-back victories, the Aces claimed the solo ninth place in the team standings with a 3-6 record, just a half game behind the Batang Pier, who dropped to 3-5.
Franko House and Vic Manuel both ended up with a double-double of 23 points and 11 boards, Abu Tratter finished with 17 points and nine rebounds for a near double-double performance, while Jeron Teng added 13 markers, five board, and four dimes for the Aces, who traded Chris Banchero in exchange for Robbie Herndon and Rodney Brondial.
Christian Standhardinger had 37 points, 16 rebounds, and five assists to lead NorthPort, while Michael Qualls had 35 points, 15 boards, four blocks, and three steals for the Batang Pier side playing without Robert Bolick, as the rookie guard is out for six months due to an ACL tear in his right knee he sustained in game against San Miguel.
