Balanced Alaska topples Blackwater for second win
Alaska Aces fended off a hapless Blackwater Elite side, 101-91, to stay alive in the race for a playoff spot in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Unleashing a huge second-quarter surge before surviving Blackwater’s comeback attempt in the third, the Aces thus improved to 2-6, creating a three-way tie with Phoenix Pulse and Blackwater for 10th place at the bottom of the standings.
Jeron Teng led the way for Alaska’s balanced attack with a near double-double of 19 points and eight boards. Franko House produced 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Abu Tratter had 18 markers as well.
Vic Manuel provided 12 markers, while Chris Banchero added nine markers in a game where Alaska led by as much as 26 points.
Marqus Blakely paced the Elite with 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a lost cause as Blackwater suffered a third straight defeat.
