Blakely keeps job as Blackwater import for rest of Governors’ Cup
Marqus Blakely is taking over the import role for the Blackwater Elite for the rest of the 2019 PBA Governors Cup.
Coming in as import replacement for Aaron Fuller, Blakely has led the team to a 1-2 record, averaging 11.6 points, 11.3 rebounds, 6.6 assists, 4.6 blocks, and 2.3 steals in his first three games with Blackwater.
Meanwhile, Blackwater’s original pick, Fuller, who suffered an ankle injury before the tournament started, played for the first time this conference last October 11, putting up 26 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks that just went to waste as the Elite were sent crashing back to earth with a 90-102 defeat they absorbed at the hands of the Columbian Dyip.
On Wednesday, October 16, Blakely returned as Elite’s reinforcement and tallied 21 points, 13 rebounds, five steals, and three dimes to help the team take down the reigning champions Magnolia Hotshots, 95-89.
“Marqus will be our import for the rest of the conference. We made the decision already after Aaron Fuller’s game the other time,” head coach Aris Dimaunahan said.
“We weighed things out. We had a meeting. We opted to go with Marqus. Maganda ‘yung energy ng team namin tonight. It somehow fueled our offense, and our defense fuels our offense,” he added.
