Barangay Ginebra regained its winning ways as it hacked out a 129-124 win at the expense of the San Miguel Beermen, Sunday night at the Big Dome.
Ginebra, despite having a huge lead, had to lean on Justin Brownlee down the stretch to avert another monumental collapse and survive the Beermen’s expected comeback.
Justin Brownlee dropped a triple-double of 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists to help Ginebra halt a two-game slump, putting an end to San Miguel’s unbeaten run in the process.
Stanley Pringle contributed 27 points, while LA Tenorio and Japeth Aguilar chipped in 19 and 17, respectively. Jeff Chan and Art dela Cruz ended up in double digits as well with 15 and 11 points respectively as Ginebra improved to 2-2.
San Miguel trailed by as many as 18 points in the second period, but managed to climb its way back and closed to within three, 108-111, behind Von Pessumal’s treys with five minutes left.
The Beermen inched closer and made it just a 111-113 deficit after Dez Wells successfully completed an and-one play at the 4:26 mark.
But the Gin Kings responded with a 10-2 rally to restore order and turn back gritty San Miguel.
Wells led SMB and put up 52 points in a losing effort as San Miguel absorbed their first loss and dropped to 4-1.
