The Philippine men’s national basketball team is looking to get back in training as it shifts its focus to the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup following an exit in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament on Friday morning, July 2 (Manila time.)
Gilas had romped past Indonesia and defeated South Korea twice in the third window to complete sweep of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, ending up with a perfect 6-0 record.
But Philippines suffered back-to-back losses against powerhouse teams Serbia and Dominican Republic in the next round to officially exit from the OQT.
According to Gilas head coach Tab Baldwin, they are eyeing to go through another training at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna later this month.
“We don’t have the exact dates and we don’t know exactly what the protocol measures will be in the Philippines. But it looks like it will be back to the Calamba bubble for us at this point,” Baldwin said.
“I would say somewhere around July 20th to the 25th, we’ll be back in the gym with the team.”
