Gilas pounces on Singapore for 52-point win in SEA Games debut
Gilas Pilipinas opened its 2019 Southeast Asian Games campaign on a dominant fashion with a 110-58 annihilation of Singapore on Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The Philippine men’s national team flexed its muscle from the get-go, unloading a 30-13 spree in the opening period, with Stanley Pringle setting the tone early by scoring the team’s first eight points.
Pringle ended up with 14 markers to go with five assists, as four more Gilas players reached double figures in the rout.
Troy Rosario came off the bench and finished with a team-high 15 points, Vic Manuel tallied 14 in his Gilas debut, Matthew Wright provided 13 points, while June Mar Fajardo went to work and scored eight of his 12 points in the second half, alongside six rebounds and two assists in just 17 minutes of action.
For Singapore, only one player scored in double figures with Wei Kwek finishing with 10 points and five rebounds for the game.
Vietnam is Gilas’ next opponent on Friday, December 6 at 8:15 pm, still at the Mall of Asia Arena.
