Gilas sweeps Group A after demolishing Myanmar, 136-67
Gilas Pilipinas flipped the switch in the second quarter to blow past Myanmar, 136-67, in the 30th Southeast Asian Games on Saturday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Taking just an eight-point lead after the first period, Gilas heated up from beyond the arc in the second frame to break away for good, with snipers Marcio Lassiter and Matthew Wright taking charge, combining for 10 treys to propel the team to a 45-12 rampage.
As a result, the Philippines swept the Group A bracket with a clean 3-0 slate to formalize their semifinal entry, while Myanmar bowed out of the competition winless at 0-3.
Wright led the blowout with a game-high 29 points highlighted with eight three-pointers. Vic Manuel provided 24 points, 11 boards, and five assists, while five more Gilas players chipping in double figures in the game where they led by as much as 72 points, even with June Mar Fajardo and Stanley Pringle not seeing action.
Aung Myint finished with 28 points and seven assists to pace the struggling Myanmar side, while Chin Ta had 14 in the loss.
The Philippines will take on Group B no. 2 Indonesia on Monday, December 9 for the semifinal round.
