Barangay Ginebra reasserted its mastery over the Magnolia Hotshots, cruising to a 105-83 rout in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
In another edition of the Manila Clasico, the Gin Kings flipped a switch offensively and defensively in the third quarter, and turned a close game into a blowout win where they led by as much as 27 points.
By taking down the reigning champions, Ginebra thus made it back-to-back victories for the first time this conference as they improved to 3-2 to move up to fifth place in the rankings.
Justin Brownlee flirted with yet another triple-double, ending up with with 27 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds, and four steals to lead the Gin Kings.
Japeth Aguilar and Scottie Thompson provided a big lift as well with 14 markers apiece, with the latter knocking down four treys. Stanley Pringle had 11 points, while Art Dela Cruz chipped in 10 markers.
Meanwhile, Rome dela Rosa topscored for Magnolia with 18 points, while import Romeo Travis, coming off an ankle injury he sustained over a week ago against San Miguel, returned and submitted 17 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists in a losing effort as the Hotshots fell to joint sixth with Columbian at 3-4 with their third consecutive loss.
