Magnolia pulls off great escape to beat pesky Rain or Shine
Magnolia Hotshots used a stifling defense to escape past the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 69-68, in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday night at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
The Hotshots blew away a 10-point lead with over four minutes to go, but made up for it on the defensive end after holding the Elasto Painters scoreless in the final two minutes to secure the win in a low-scoring game.
With a back-to-back victories, Magnolia thus improved to 2-1, while Rain or Shine dropped to 1-3.
Import Romeo Travis was the only double-digit scorer for the defending champions, finishing with 26 points to go along with 14 rebounds.
Ian Sangalang and Mark Barroca led the Magnolia locals with eight markers apiece, while Paul Lee had seven points.
Javee Mocon had 14 points and eight rebounds to lead Rain or Shine, which absorbed its second straight loss, while import Keyal Locke had 13 points and nine rebounds against six turnovers in his debut.
