San Miguel Beermen pulled off a huge comeback run in the fourth quarter to stun the TNT KaTropa, 99-94, in Game 5 of the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup finals Wednesday night at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
With the win, the Beermen inched closer to clinching the title as they took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Import Chris McCullough delivered under pressure for SMB, pouring 19 of his team-high 35 points including a tough lay-up that gave his side a 95-94 lead and two crucial free throws that completed San Miguel’s comeback from 16 points down.
McCullough, who also tracked down 22 boards, got big help from the locals as well as Terrence Romeo added 22 points on four three-pointers, while June Mar Fajardo added 16 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Terrence Jones spearheaded the KaTropa with 35 points, 17 rebounds, and eight assists but was limited to just three points in the payoff period.
Game 6 of the series is on Friday, August 16 still at the Big Dome.
