Meralco survives big Ginebra fightback to tie series
Meralco Bolts caught fire from deep as it stormed past the Barangay Ginebra, 104-102, in the Game Two of the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup finals on Friday night at the Quezon City Convention Center.
Struggling for a 7-of-32 shooting from the three in their 91-87 Game One loss, the Bolts regained their shooting, connecting a PBA finals-record 16 three-pointers to tie the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.
Despite a 19-point lead, Meralco had to survive a big Barangay Ginebra threat late in the fourth, riding on their three-point shooting in the clutch to preserve the two-point win.
Former two-time Best Import Allen Durham paced Meralco with 21 points, 18 rebounds, and six assists. Baser Amer and Chris Newsome added 17 each, Raymond Almazan was good for 15 points, while John Pinto and Nico Salva provided spark off the bench by adding 12 and nine points, respectively.
Meanwhile, Justin Brownlee had 35 points and 11 rebounds, while Stanley Pringle added 23 points and 10 rebounds for Barangay Ginebra.
Game Three of the best-of-seven affair will be on Sunday, January 12, 6:30 p.m. at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
