New-look Gilas routs Indonesia for 30-point win
Gilas Pilipinas turned it up a notch in the second half to get past Indonesia, 100-70, in the first window of the 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers at the Britama Arena in Jakarta, Indonesia Sunday night.
As a result, Gilas opened the first window of the qualifiers with a 1-0 record in Group A, while Indonesia dropped to a 0-2 start after absorbing back-to-back home games to South Korea and the Philippines.
With the Indonesians putting up a tough stand in the first two periods up until early third quarter, the Philippine men’s basketball team went on a quick 12-0 surge and never looked back en route to the 30-point victory.
The third-quarter rampage was made possible by Thirdy Ravena, as the Gilas forward wounded up 13 of his team-high 23 points in the period, while adding eight boards, three assists, and two blocks to wrap up just his second game for the team.
Roger Pogoy kept the offense going in the first quarter by scoring nine of his 16 points. CJ Perez contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals, and three assists, while Kiefer Ravena and Juan Gomez de Liano wound up with 10 each.
Meanwhile, only two players ended up in double figures for the Indonesian squad, with Andakara Prastawa and Abraham Grahita leading the way with 28 and 17 points, respectively.
The Philippines’ next assignment will be on November 27 against South Korea and against Thailand on November 30.
