NorthPort Batang Pier completed a strong comeback win over the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 107-105, in overtime in the 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Wednesday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Playing only with an eight-man rotation and starting a new era without star guard Stanley Pringle, who was traded to the Barangay Ginebra in exchange of Kevin Ferrer, Sol Mercado, and Jervy Cruz, the undermanned Batang Pier side turned things around in the fourth quarter with a strong run before putting away the game in extra session.
As a result, the Batang Pier raised their record to 6-1 after making it three victories in a row, while Rain or Shine dropped to 2-3.
Mo Tautuaa came through with a career-high 34 points on top of 11 rebounds, two steals, and an assist, while Robert Bolick had an all-around game, finishing with 22 points, nine assists, six rebounds, a steal, and a block.
The duo led the fightback for NorthPort, which fell behind by 25 points and entered the final frame facing a 21-point deficit.
The Batang Pier exploded for a 37-16 rampage in the fourth punctuated by a Bolick triple to tie and send the game into overtime, before Tautuaa drilled his own to give NorthPort a comfortable 107-102 lead in OT.
Denzel Bowles paced the Elasto Painters with 41 points and 21 rebounds in a losing effort.
