Rain or Shine Elasto Painters weathered a major scare from the San Miguel Beermen, pulling off a 91-85 win in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The Elasto Painters squandered a lead as much as 22 points as San Miguel mounted a huge rally in the fourth to make it just a two-point game.
But Rain or Shine clamped down the Beermen in the final minute before making their free throws to seal the win that improved its record to 3-7, keeping its very slim of hopes for final spot in the quarterfinals as the E-Painters climbed to solo 10th place.
Import Richard Ross and Javee Mocon led the way for the Elasto Painters with 16 points apiece, to go with 12 and 14 rebounds, respectively, for a double-double performance.
Gabe Norwood and Rey Nambatac each had 15 points, while Jewel Ponferada added 10 for Rain or Shine, which ended a two-game losing streak in the victory.
Meanwhile, the Beermen slipped to fifth place with a 6-4 card with the loss, allowing Barangay Ginebra to take the solo spot in fourth with a 6-3 slate.
Chris Ross had 19 points, five assists, and seven steals to pace the Beermen, who also got a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds from June Mar Fajardo, as new import John Holland contributed 10 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and two blocks in his PBA debut.
