Rain or Shine stuns Meralco, keeps faint playoff hopes alive
Rain or Shine Elasto Painters took down the Meralco Bolts, scoring an 83-81 comeback win in the 2019 PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
The Elasto Painters went on a fourth-quarter blast to climb back from a huge deficit before holding down surging Meralco in the clutch to come out with the victory.
With a 4-7 finish in the elimination round, Rain or Shine is left hoping NorthPort loses to Barangay Ginebra and Alaska drops its last game against NLEX at eliminations end on Wednesday for all of them to tie Columbian at seventh.
Import Rich Ross did the heavy lifting for Rain or Shine, producing 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Rey Nambatac added 24 points in the win.
Allen Durham had 23 points and 16 rebounds to lead Meralco. Raymond Almazan had a double-double with 18 points and 19 rebounds, Baser Amer also finished with 18 points, while Chris Newsome chipped in 12 markers in a losing effort as the Bolts dropped to the second spot with an 8-3 card.
